Summary Of My Progress Through Week 4

Week 4 has been a challenging and exciting week.

Week where I finally got down to run my first automated test case within the Cucumber JUnit framework.

So far if you have been following along, I have been learning Cucumber BDD (Behaviour driven development) and just about to conclude this topic.

I finally got down to running my first automated test case within this framework and came across my first show stopper.

I have gained the required knowledge around Cucumber BDD however, the execution has failed due to some issues with reporting on the framework.

I spent 1 hour a day to learn and execute on knowledge gained.

This means I have six hours during the week to learn and capture my progress.

Most of this time in week four has been spent troubleshooting issues I came across when trying to execute my first automation test case.

However, the plus side is — in doing all this investigation I have managed to get a much deeper understanding around the Cucumber framework.

This issue is still outstanding and dragging in to week 5.

The course I am using to learn from has a support community so will raise this issue in there and see what feedback I get.

I might have to pivot into using a hybrid framework in Serenity BDD Cucumber, Selenium, and JUnit.

This way I still get to retain my Cucumber knowledge and use the Serenity report framework in this process.

I look forward to these developments within week 5.

So week 4 was all about plenty of knowledge input but not much practical outputs due to issues above.

Read or Listen

I could not execute much this week so turned to consume a lot of content.

Again my default guy is Naval because he always gets me thinking out with the norm.

I also spent a few hours this week on medium.com reading from my go-to writers Tim Denning, Tom Handy, Nicolas Cole, and Michael Thompson.

An audible book I have been listening to is Letting Go By: David R. Hawkins MD. PHD.

This book touches upon many areas I am very interested in, such as, mental health, psychology, self-help and spiritual development amongst others.

I highly recommend you reading or listening to this book.

Physical Activity

Still in the RED here.

Managed to head out for a 5km run on Thursday.

Enjoyed the run itself but not been able to head out more this week.

What has kept me sane is my daily long walks which I use to clear my thoughts and bring calm to my state of mind.

The lesson I am learning here about myself is, indoor exercises not really my strongest point, I am more outdoors inclined.

However, still, room to change this and bring a new habit into my lifestyle.

Meditation And Prayer

Not much change here.

Again, I am seeing how we could increase our meditation time together as a family.

We always pray and continuously give praise to our Lord Jesus Christ for all he has done and continues to do in our lives.

Financial Fitness

Got out excel this week and put down all my incomings and outgoings.

Not a pretty sight.

I need to be more hands-on in tracking my expenses which to this point I have not been doing.

If I cannot do the above then must look for areas to make cuts or saving into a war chest will never be possible.

Nonetheless, I do continue to educate myself with financial analysis and tools out there for the job.

Right now I am stuck where I really do not want to be financially.

Anxious every time I need to look into or track my finances.

Conclusion

As you could tell week 4 was challenging but exciting as I gained a much deeper knowledge and understanding through trouble shooting the problems I came across.

I continue to face these issues as I get into week 5 but will look into how to get round it without compromising my main objective.

One of the ways, as I already pointed out, would be to use a hybrid automation framework where I get to integrate Cucumber knowledge gained this far.

I believe I continue to progress well as a whole person.

There have been a lot of lessons learnt this week and I will be documenting those every month.

Not sure if I will distribute this yet but this is what will propel my growth with regards to seeing areas of improvement and acting on them.

Many Thanks and Stay Blessed.

As always, if you are following along with your own personal growth plan, wishing you awesome progress in week 5.
